Five Seminary Scholarships for Current and Future Pastors

It’s scholarship season! If you are interested in applying for any of the scholarships listed here, make sure you contact the seminary or read the fine print; you may need to apply and be admitted before qualifying for scholarships.

Some scholarships have a priority deadline of March 1, or a hard deadline, such as May 1. Again, be sure to read the fine print, but most importantly: don’t put this off! The early bird really does get the worm here.

Five Seminary Scholarships for Current and Future Pastors

Portland Seminary (previously George Fox Seminary)

The John and Emma Pike Scholarship is awarded to MDiv students committed to full-time pastoral ministry upon graduation. Nestled in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Portland Seminary is a multi denominational evangelical institution. This Oregon-based seminary prizes a Christ-centered approach to education, diversity in student life and scholarship, and making sure their students are known personally, spiritually, and academically. Honorable scholarship mentions: 

  • The Clara and Harlan Macy Memorial Scholarship was established by family members to help seminary students going into pastoral ministry.
  • The Ost Scholarship is awarded to MDiv students anticipating full-time ministry or missions work.

Mid-America Reformed Seminary

The Tuininga Scholarship was established in honor of Rev. Jelle Tuininga’s twenty-five years of pastoral ministry. The intent of this scholarship is to help qualified students who are training for ministry in a confessionally Reformed churchMid-America Reformed Seminary is an intentionally residential seminary in Dyer, Indiana. Emphasizing face-to-face spiritual formation and academic training, Mid-America equips students for a Christ-centered, well-rounded pastoral ministry, with special emphasis on a precise and biblically-grounded pulpit ministry.

Reformed Theological Seminary

As part of the Hughes Initiative for Pastoral Excellence, the Hughes Scholarship demonstrates the heart and commitment to the local church of both RTS and of the Hughes family. This scholarship is for MDiv students, awarding 100% of tuition for residential courses, 50% for distance education, and a $1,000/year book budget.  How to Apply Learn more about the Hughes Scholarship, or even nominate someone you feel is worthy of consideration.

Virginia Beach Theological Seminary

The Reuter scholarship is for new Master of Divinity students. The scholarship covers all tuition and fees for one semester, which is valued at $3,262. VBTS is a theologically-baptist seminary in beautiful Virginia Beach, with a heart to train scholar-pastors who are not only remarkable expositors of the authoritative word of God, but are also personally and pastorally marked by grace. Though they do offer online learning options, the residential programs at VBTS allow the student to practice what they’re learning in a local church context, alongside other students and seasoned alumni.

Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

The Bivocational Planter Seminary Scholarship is part of a tuition reimbursement program from NAMB. It focuses on senior or lead pastors bivocational pastors and Southern Baptist Convention church planters (in the Send Network) who already hold an undergraduate degree. The scholarship covers up to  $2,400/year toward a fully-online master’s degree.
